Throughout this article I will be focusing on virtual machines and data as part of your Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) environment, combined with the Nerdio Manager for WVD deployment – from an architectural point of view. This data may be stored on your VMs, in the form of user profiles, departmental and personal user data.
Continue ReadingAzure Universal Print service: what is it and should we care?
This is a referral to an article I wrote for brianmadden.com – About a month ago, Microsoft announced the private preview of Universal Print, a new “modern” print solution that organizations can use to manage their print infrastructure through cloud services from Microsoft. The main idea is to simplify printing by moving some of the key Windows Server print functionality to the Microsoft 365 Cloud.
Continue ReadingA big step forward for Windows Virtual Desktop printing. Part two
A couple of months ago, in June I wrote about some of the benefits that Tricerat brings to the table when printing from remote, or Cloud-based virtual environments, which, of course, applies to WVD as well. Now that Windows Virtual Desktop has gone GA I thought I’d talk a bit more on how this works from a technical point of view.

First and foremost, we would again like to say THANK YOU! Thank you, to everyone who contributed, bought a copy, helped spread the word, or otherwise. It’s been quite a roller-coaster, and to say we enjoyed every moment of it would be an understatement.
Continue Reading20 years in IT, here’s what I’ve picked up along the way. Big read, skimming optional
A catchy title, right? “Here’s what I’ve picked up during my last 20 years of my life” would have worked as well, if you know what I mean. But hey, we’re in IT, we are ambitious, hungry for knowledge, eager to learn, over achievers, workaholics, and what not. It’s fun, potentially stressful, hard work, but also very satisfying and rewarding at the same time. At least that’s how I would describe my career so far.
Continue ReadingEUC-X becomes EUCdigest, a name change. About to launch!
Yes, we changed our name from EUC-X to EUCdigest. It turned out that EUC-X was already taken (an unfortunate timing issue) and we were legally forced to come up with something else. Luckily we had EUCdigest as a backup, and to be honest, we like it… A LOT! Perhaps better even.
Continue ReadingEUC-X… Heads up – A new and exciting community initiative is on the rise
Today I want to give you a heads up on something exciting we (and I’ll get to the who we are part shortly) are currently working on/developing.
Continue ReadingA short one on monthly costs associated with WVD in preview
Just in case you might be wondering what it takes to run a (very) small WVD environment on Azure, here’s my breakdown from the last couple of months – resource and cost-wise.
Continue ReadingA big step forward for Windows Virtual Desktop printing. Part one
Last month I (virtually) sat down with Andrew Parlette, CTO of Tricerat. We’ve been in contact before and I was wondering if they have anything special up their sleeve regarding the upcoming Windows Virtual Desktop release. As it turns out, their Simplify Print Suite fits in very nicely. Of course, if you know their product stack this doesn’t come as a surprise.
Continue ReadingMy presentation slide-deck on WVD for SBC-Solutions
On June the 19th (2019) I delivered a presentation on the Windows Virtual Desktop for a company named SBC-Solutions, fitting, right? I had around 75 minutes to deliver including questions and discussion. It all turned out very nicely, my session was well received with tons of interaction from the audience. Below are the slides I used. They are in Dutch, though I’m sure most of it will make sense.
