After months of hard work and community (that’s you!) efforts we’ve finally reached the point where we can say, our book: Byte-Sized: Cloud design principles and architectural recommendations is now available for purchase, the paperback version that is. Read this blog to find out how and where to get it.

THANK YOU – that’s probably the best, or only way to start this blog. We (= myself and Christiaan Brinkhoff) started the Byte-Sized book project back in January and we never expected this amount of attention and help from the community (of course, we hoped for it).

Average time to read: 8 minutesThe E2EVC – Experts to Experts Virtualisation Congress (Epic edition) Amsterdam took place from Friday the 8th till Sunday the 10th. For those of you who are not familiar with the concept of E2EVC, go here– you’re missing out if you don’t. The following are a few notes from sessions I attended and people I spoke to. I’ve also included a few images here and there.
2016 — A personal look in the rearview mirror
Average time to read: 6 minutesAnd what a year it has been! Personally as well as professionally I have managed to improve and surprise myself on multiple levels. On some occasions I wasn’t even capable of spelling ‘comfort-zone’ correctly, I was so far off. The best thing is, I already have some great prospects for 2017 as well, but I’ll (have to) save that for a future post, not to long from now. 2016, like 2015 before that was again packed with community get-togethers’, mostly in the form of conferences, some small (er) some big/huge, but all fun and it truly never gets tiring, presenting included. Ok, let’s reflect for a minute, shall we…
2015! My year in review, and what a year it has been!
Average time to read: 4 minutes2015, where do I start? It was an amazing year to say the least, personally as well as professionally. For one, it was another year full of events and get togethers, which, as always I enjoyed very much. In fact, 2015 marked the year of my first ever Citrix Synergy, and what a ride it turned out to be. I’ll definitely be back for seconds! Looking back from 2013 up till now I can only say that I am privileged to have met so many great and fun community folks over the last couple of years and hopefully it doesn’t stop here.
Introducing the FMA Internals Co-op
Average time to read: 2 minutesAs of today, Saturday the 13th of June 2015, Mick Glover and I are proud to present the FMA Internals Co-op. A co-operation between a seasoned Citrix veteran and an established community blogger and Citrix enthusiast. Which is sort of a unique combination as far as we know.
Ask not what the community can do for you, ask what you can do for the community!
Average time to read: 8 minutesNow that Synergy has come and gone it’s time to reflect. Don’t worry; I won’t list all announcements, products, technologies etc. that has been done many times over and I think that by now most of you know about the Workspace Cloud, Octoblu, and the renewed love for XenApp etc. to name just a few. I also don’t want to talk about the Keynote(s), this has been chewed on and spit out more times than I can count, which is a good thing, don’t get me wrong. The more the merrier, since we can all benefit from positive as well as negative comments and/or feedback one way or the other. And of course we are all entitled to our opinion.
I’m presenting at the Dutch Citrix User Group… And to me that’s huge!
Average time to read: 6 minutesAfter two years of blogging, hiding behind my MacBook :) and virtually on Twitter, Linked-In etc… the time has finally come to take the next step. On March 6th I will be presenting at the next DuCUG event, or Dutch Citrix User Group in full, taking place at Dell in Amsterdam. In fact if you are reading this, chances are that I’m on stage at this very moment. For me it is an absolute first, not just at DuCUG but also with regards to presenting, or public speaking, in general. I have had multiple opportunities in the past but I just kept making up excuses so I wouldn’t have to go up on stage. Because to be honest, the thought of standing in front of a big crowd and doing ‘my thing’ kind of scares me. And DuCUG can be considered a big crowd, at least in my book. It has been sold out for weeks, as it always is, meaning that no less than 150 IT professionals will be there to hear what I, and others, have to say. It’s an honour to be part of their line-up, check their agenda (screenshot below), there are some ‘big’ names on there.
Who needs Citrix Synergy Europe when we have events like E2EVC?!
Average time to read: 10 minutesDon’t get me wrong, I like Citrix, but every now and again companies, since their run by people, make mistakes, it happens. Normally you’d learn from them, but I guess there will always be exceptions. Dear Citrix, please listen to us, the community, and bring back Synergy to where it belongs (as well), Europe! Luckily we have E2EVC, which, even if Synergy would return, is ranked Nr. 1 by many, and since a couple of months I know why. Of course it’s hard to compare these types of events and maybe we shouldn’t, but let’s just say that Citrix leaves us no other choice. Read on please, it’s not all bad.
