Throughout the years I have had the pleasure of visiting dozens of companies to talk about their ‘digital workspace’ challenges. Projects ranged from thousands of users/machines to just a few hundred. Some of these challenges were related to physical desktops, some to virtual, some were on-premises, some were cloud-based. I’ve worked for retail companies, financial, travel, in healthcare, etc. No matter their branch and/or size, they all dealt with the same types of issues.
Windows 10 multi-user (it’s coming) – All facts and speculations listed
Speculations around a multi-user Windows 10 version really took off with the absence of the RDSH role in one of the first Windows Server 2019 preview releases (build nr 17623). Back in March, the 20th of 2018 to be a bit more precise. Rumors about a multi-user Windows 10 version already existed, of course, but until then weren’t publicly shared, at least not as explicit as throughout the last couple of months. Let’s see what we know today.
Convert all your machines into (permanent or temporary) fully functional, fully managed thin client devices, in under three minutes!
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Well, not in this case. The IGEL UDC3 software, which stands for Universal Desktop Converter, transforms any x86 based machine into a fully functional and managed thin client device, and does it fast.
10 books I recommend reading – both for inspiration and practical purposes
I’d like to share with you 10 books I have read throughout the last year or so. I do not read dozens of books per year, nor do I read fictional books – I just don’t have the patience. When I read I want to learn something, preferably something I can apply both personally as well as professionally. Here are 10 titles I enjoyed very much and knowing my audience, so to speak, I’m pretty sure you will too, with an exception here and there. Per book I’ve included a short description as well as the accompanying ISBN numbers.Continue Reading

The E2EVC – Experts to Experts Virtualisation Congress (Epic edition) Amsterdam took place from Friday the 8th till Sunday the 10th. Windows applications still rule the universe, on-premises SBC/VDI deployments are still king, cloud on the rise
Last month (May 2018) Login VSI and Frame presented the results of their State of the VDI and SBC union world-wide survey – the 2018 edition. Mark Plettenberg (Product Manager at Login VSI) and Ruben Spruijt (CTO at Frame) have put together a 66-page document holding all kinds of interesting VDI and SBC related statistics. The survey was completed by 755 people worldwide – go here to download your own copy. I went through the report and picked out a couple of subjects which are currently of most interest, or to me anyway.
Innovation and making progress! Liquidware – you’ve heard about them before, right?
Even though I’m no longer employed by Liquidware, I still very much like the technology and people involved. In today’s post, I want to highlight some of the major product updates they have launched throughout the last couple of months – it’s pretty impressive. If you are going to be at E2EVC (Amsterdam) next week, make sure to stop by their session, I’ve picked up a glimpse and it’s going to be good. It’s on Saturday at 10:50 and goes by the session name: Go Hybrid. Applications, Profiles, and Data accessible via On-prem and Cloud. Presented by David Bieneman – Co-Founder and CEO of Liquidware.
I’m joining (the) Technical Fellows – Why join the navy if you can be a pirate?
No, I didn’t switch companies, I’m perfectly fine where I am now. To be honest, I am by far the least technical and knowledgeable person in the group. Read on…
