Citrix has had a very busy year. After the release of XenApp and XenDesktop 7.16 in November of 2017, four new versions were released throughout 2018 – XA/XD 7.17, 7.18, and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7 1808, and 1811. Wow! From delegated control to the Workspace App, numerous HDX and ICA improvements, LHC, Config Logging, and the list goes on. Release after release brought new and improved features and functionalities, awesome! But what about printing..?
Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop and Liquidware – better together
During Microsoft Ignite Microsoft announced their Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) offering, available on Microsoft Azure exclusively. It provides users with a full, multi-user Windows 10 experience virtualized in the Cloud and always up to date and available on every device.
FULLY UPDATED: Cloud Core Services Cheat Sheet
Here you go, a fully updated sheet with help from the community – thank you! If you feel there is still something missing, do let me know. I cannot promise an update right away, but I’ll keep collecting feedback and get it in there eventually. I’ve added a (connection) protocol section (thanks Rachel) and updated 10 other fields (over 20% new content). Again, it’s not meant as a ‘like for like’ comparison sheet, it’s more of a ‘this is what to look for on a per-platform basis to get you started’ kind of thing. So, no this one is faster, better, cheaper etc…
12 noteworthy announcements made during AWS re:Invent 2018
In this post, I’d like to highlight a couple of eye-catching announcements (12 to be a bit more precise) made throughout re:Invent 2018, AWS’s annual main event, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have never been to one of their conferences personally, but man, would I like to go someday. AWS has always been and still is the Nr 1 in Cloud services and solutions worldwide. Of course, Microsoft is catching up quickly. Let’s dig in and see what they’ve been up to.
Cloud Core Services Cheat Sheet. Compute, Networking, Storage, and Databases
There are hundreds, if not thousands of different cloud services to choose from, it can be quite overwhelming. Where to start? Also, while each cloud vendor offers the same services and/or functionality (there are differences, of course) they all use slightly different naming conventions, which can be very confusing. That’s why I thought it would be helpful to list a bunch most used Cloud services (25 in total), on a per platform (AWS, Azure, and Google) basis, listing their main purpose/use-case and accompanying service names. This way you’ll know where to start and what to look for, hopefully. The primary focus lies on Compute, Networking, Storage, and Databases services – the building blocks of (Cloud) life.
Liquidware Stratusphere UX just got a big update
Throughout my time at Liquidware Stratusphere UX was always one of the favorites, during customer visits, demo’s, tech sessions, you name it. Not really surprising, since detailed insights into what’s happening from a technical as well as user perspective is a very important part of the end user experience and ongoing (never ending, it seems) management puzzle. This applies to on-premises as much as it does to various cloud environments, never mind which one.
Direct IP printing for the masses. Easy and effective
Direct IP printing is where you print directly from your desktop machine (a physical one, in most cases) to a print device, meaning no print servers or other infrastructural components sit in between. This isn’t new technology, though, the way you handle or manage such a setup has changed over time. How can we take advantage of direct IP printing without the drawbacks that usually come with it? That’s what I’d like to discuss today.
Introducing: VDI Drones – Mass bench-marking and load testing, easy as pie
About two weeks ago I had the pleasure to sit down with Dennis Smith – founder and owner of Gourami software. Dennis and I have known each other for a couple of years now and I’ve come to know Dennis as real IT nerd with a big passion for developing software – free (community) software, as well as various ‘paid for’ solutions. Today I would like to introduce you to VDI Drones, a new product released by Gourami aimed at benchmarking/load testing your virtual and underlying physical infrastructure.
