Yesterday, during the Citrix Synergy 2019 Keynote it saw the light of day, although it’s not generally available, yet. Based on the information (publicly) shared, here’s a rundown of what we know so far. Plus a few personal notes.
Continue ReadingAppAttach is based on, or extends existing MSIX technology. It allows you to take any existing MSIX package, without altering or repackaging and ‘stream’ it to a virtual or physical machine, much like you are used to with existing Application Layering products. It is also been mentioned that Microsoft is slowly moving away from existing solutions like App-V, for example, and thus positioning MSIX as their main technology for application packaging/provisioning purposes going forward.

After a formal kickoff (and coffee, of course), the group was split into a technical and business/sales orientated track. Needles to say I joined the technical track. Here’s what I’ve learned. The concept is simple and according to Amazon it simplifies application management, improves security, and reduces costs by moving company’s applications from their users’ physical devices to the AWS Cloud. I would agree, except for the management part.

Continue ReadingWhile setting up a Proof of Concept is a great way to evaluate software solutions it can also be very time and resource consuming. Getting the budget is one thing, finding the time, and (right) people for the job is another. Let alone some of the more technical challenges that you’ll have to face and figure out. At the very least, even if the product(s) is/are simple to use you’ll still need to go through the basic installation and configuration steps, go over some of the FAQ’s, and so on before being able to get some testing done – it’s a fact of IT life as we know it. Right? Well, not any more.

Continue ReadingA lot of companies offer free support while you evaluate their software. The idea behind this is simple. If you don’t know how the product works, how to implement or configure it etc, there is a good chance you’ll eventually quit because it might seem overly complex, and you can’t get it to work (properly). This, while in fact it’s you doing it wrong, not reading the FAQ’s, being impatient (sounds familiar?), and so on. By providing (free) support companies hope to prevent this from happening and to get you to purchase the product, or at least to evaluate further.
