During Citrix Synergy a ton of new and exciting announcements were made. I wasn’t there to witness it myself but luckily, I was able to enjoy the Keynote (amongst other sessions and announcements) from a sunny and warm terrace (cold beers included) since the weather here in the Netherlands was some of the best we’ve seen in a long time. Of course, the 9-hour time difference also helped.
Windows Server 2019, but no RDSH? A Multi-User version of Windows10? What’s going on?
Last week Microsoft announced a new version of their Server Operating a.k.a. Windows Server 2019. Since the announcement I’ve seen many comments going back and forth regarding its licensing structure, the use of RDSH (or not) and so on. Here’s a short list of thoughts and facts I was able to gather.
An instant hit! The Liquidware partner training 2018 – Spring edition
After almost two months of planning and preparations, on February the 26th we opened our doors to the first ever Dutch Liquidware partner training, here in Amsterdam. Joseph Ahn, our internal trainer flew in from Austin, Texas to provide four days, with an optional fifth of intensive training and certification around ProfileUnity, FlexApp, and Stratusphere UX.
Focus on Citrix (or VMware, or Microsoft) – not printing!
I’ve always had a big interest in printing. It’s something I have written about and presented on extensively in the past. Throughout the years I have had my fair share of failure when it comes to printing in Citrix/RDSH/VDI based environments (who hasn’t?) so I decided to dig in a bit deeper. Not too long ago I got introduced to Tricerat, a very simple, yet effective and efficient solution when it comes to taking care of all things print related within Citrix environments, or any other type of environment, for that matter. Throughout this post I’d like to share with you how they simplify print management and let you, the IT Administrator, focus on Citrix – not printing!
Meltdown and Spectre – Minimize impact and avoid performance problems – how Stratusphere UX can help!
When it comes to both Meltdown and Spectre, the question you should be asking yourself is not if you are affected or at risk – because you most likely are. The question you should be asking yourself is what do I need to do and how does it impact the performance of my server/desktop farm?! Whether it’s virtual or physical, Microsoft, VMware or Citrix based, desktop or server, it doesn’t matter, all need to be looked after.
The Easy Button – A story about Corruption, Portability, Office 365, User Profile bloat, ProfileDisk, non-persistent Data Indexing and more…
20 Min. read – User profiles have been around for many years. According to Wikipedia the user-profiling scheme in force today owes its origins to Windows NT, which stored its profiles within the system folder itself, typically under C:\WINNT\Profiles\. Windows 2000 saw the change to a separate “Documents and Settings” folder for profiles, and in this respect, is virtually identical to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
In detail. Windows 10, the one OS to rule them all – Except it’s NOT
Throughout the last couple of months, I have published multiple articles on blog.liquidware.com. As you might have noticed, two of them were in Dutch. Since many of you have been asking what I wrote about, this post will address some of the challenges you will encounter when dealing with multiple versions of the Windows Operating System, including multiple versions of Windows 10 which was one of the main topics throughout my last (Dutch) article.
The last write wins – NO, it does not, we do!
Last week I published a blog post around ProfileUnity named: The future looks bright for User Environment and Workspace Management, which, looking at the numbers was very well received – if you’ve missed it you can find it here. Today I’d like to focus on a more specific, and well-known issue that has been with us for many years and does tend to cause some headaches from time to time: the last write wins. Again, this will underline the power and flexibility that ProfileUnity brings to the table.
