During Citrix Synergy, the CTP hosted sessions are among the highest rated, and with good reason. They are, almost without exception highly technical and will provide you with an unbiased view in every way possible. Below you will find an overview on all Synergy session presented by Citrix CTP’s, or Citrix Technology Professionals in full. Note that I’m not saying other sessions are less interesting or of a lower quality, not at all. It’s just that being a CTP myself I’d like to advertise the program (and its members) from time to time, that’s all really.
Citrix XenDesktop Essentials – all facts listed!
A couple of days ago Citrix shared with us the pricing and purchasing options of their latest Citrix Cloud based service, XenDesktop Essentials. This post is meant to clear up a few misconceptions and to answer one or two questions you might have. Due to license restrictions, Microsoft didn’t allow Windows desktops to be offered from multi tenant cloud platforms. As a result of current changes to their Windows 10 PUR, or Product Use Right agreement this has now changed. Windows 10 desktop machines are soon to be available from the Azure cloud/Marketplace Read on to learn more…
Citrix Smart Check — the latest addition to the Smart Tools portfolio. Make sure to take it for a test-ride
A few months ago Citrix renamed their Lifecycle Management Services to Smart Tools. Take a look at this post from fellow CTP Andrew Wood, it explains in-detail what Citrix Lifecycle Management Services is all about, including the name change. Smart Tools consists out of four distinct services each fulfilling their own purpose, for this post I would like to focus on the Smart Check service.
Citrix acquires Unidesk — here’s everything you want/need to know!
Today Citrix announced that they have acquired Unidesk — the leading application packaging (layering) and lifecycle management solution for the digital workspace. If you are not familiar with Unidesk, or application layering technology in general for that matter, I would strongly advice you to go and have a look at their website. They offer a couple of unique features taking application packaging and delivery to a whole new level. As they like to say ‘Layering changes everything‘. Let’s have a look at what this all means for both Citrix and Unidesk.
What’s new with XenApp & XenDesktop 7.12?
I can’t remember the last time I wrote about one of the new XA and/or XD releases, I think it was version 7.5. However, with version 7.12 comes the new and improved LHC, which is something a lot of ‘us’ have been waiting for. Or at least were/are curious about. Go here to find out more about the LHC, now part of the FlexCast Management Architecture, I covered it in detail. And while writing I thought I’d cover some of the other (new) 7.12 features as well.
The long awaited… XenApp and XenDesktop 7.12 Local Host Cache
Finally, it’s here, with XenApp and XenDesktop version 7.12 Citrix has re-introduced the Local Host Cache functionality. A long awaited feature by many Citrix admins globally. Though many of us are familiar with the LHC feature within 6.5, LHC as part of the FlexCast Management Architecture, which is basically what we are talking about here, is architected differently, or built from the ground up even. This has resulted in a more robust solution, immune to corruption (at least that’s the general idea) also needing less maintenance. Let’s have a look and see what it is about.
Kindle e-book available now! Inside Citrix – The FlexCast Management Architecture
It was always my intention to create an e-book version of my book as soon as I had it finished for print, and since I choose the Create Space self-publishing platform it had to be in the so-called Kindle format. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to offer it on Amazon, as I did with my paperback version as well. To be honest, of all the research I did, I didn’t spend any time looking at how to create a Kindle e-book. Something I would regret later on. I just assumed it would be fairly straightforward to convert a Word and/or .PDF document into a nicely formatted Kindle file. Boy was I wrong.
Available NOW! My book: Inside Citrix – The FlexCast Management Architecture!
Today I am extremely happy and proud to announce that my first ever book is now available for purchase over at Amazon. Continue reading to order your copy. Inside Citrix – The FlexCast Management Architecture focuses on the FMA, mainly from an architectural point of view. It will discuss, in detail all of its main components and services, their primary roles and responsibilities, including some of the most common optional components, features and/or closely related technologies. From the basics to deep (er) dives where applicable, I will make sure to include something for everybody. Do note that this book is not meant as an installation and/or how-to manual, instead it will dive deeper into the FMA, the true foundation of Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp.
Book announcement: Inside Citrix – the Flex Management Architecture!
As you might have noticed, lately it has been rather quite on basvankaam.com. But not to worry, I’m still here. While the number of blog posts from my end have been somewhat on the low side, I have kept myself busy *understatement* to say the least. Besides preparing three presentations (still a lot of work to do on those as well), which are all due in the next 2 months (Citrix Synergy included) I have been working on a big private project, a book!
Presenting… The Remote Display Analyzer!
Back in November 2015, at the E2EVC conference in Lisbon Bram and Barry first introduced us to their latest and greatest community contribution, the Remote Display Analyzer. And I can tell you, it was very well received *understatement* It seemed that this was something a lot of IT folks were waiting for. Today you have the opportunity to try it out for your self. Read on to learn why this tool will make all the difference when working with and/or troubleshooting the different HDX codes available from Citrix today. Keep an eye on basvankaam.com for any future updates.
