Remember when I told you about VDI Drones, back in September 2018? No? Click the link below if you would like to learn more. Anyway, since then we got a ton of feedback. In this post, we’d like to share what has happened in the meantime. Again, we would like to thank you all for your time and efforts throughout the last couple of months, to say you’ve been helpful would be a major understatement.
Direct IP printing for the masses. Easy and effective
Direct IP printing is where you print directly from your desktop machine (a physical one, in most cases) to a print device, meaning no print servers or other infrastructural components sit in between. This isn’t new technology, though, the way you handle or manage such a setup has changed over time. How can we take advantage of direct IP printing without the drawbacks that usually come with it? That’s what I’d like to discuss today.
Introducing: VDI Drones – Mass bench-marking and load testing, easy as pie
About two weeks ago I had the pleasure to sit down with Dennis Smith – founder and owner of Gourami software. Dennis and I have known each other for a couple of years now and I’ve come to know Dennis as real IT nerd with a big passion for developing software – free (community) software, as well as various ‘paid for’ solutions. Today I would like to introduce you to VDI Drones, a new product released by Gourami aimed at benchmarking/load testing your virtual and underlying physical infrastructure.

The application layering technology cheat sheet, version 3.0!
Throughout the past year and a half I have had some very positive feedback on the application layering cheat sheet, needles to say that I will continue to update the sheet going forward. Currently I am up to version 3.0 already. The main goal is to highlight some of the most important features and capabilities of each product and changes/additions when compared to the previous cheat sheet, version 2.0 in this case, though I will never be able to include all changes, features, and so on of every product. As such, this is by no means meant as an exclusive list.

Last week Jason E Smith, who is the Global Director of User Management and Performance Solutions within Liquidwarelabs, showed and told me a thing or two about ProfileUnity, their User Environment Manager, including their application layering a.k.a. FlexApp solution. They are on the verge of releasing ProfileUnity / FlexApp version 6.5 (as of early October) which currently holds the status of Release Candidate 1, which is the one Jason showed me.
Citrix NetScaler (10.5) licensing. What’s new with Access Gateway!
Just a few days ago Citrix announced the NetScaler 10.5, again packed with lots of cool new and useful features, but that’s not all, they also decided it was time to simplify the NetScaler license structure just a tat. And although that sounds wonderful to some, unfortunately, it has a downside as well. I’ll first elaborate a bit more on the licensing structure as we know it today and take it from there.
